Joshua Tree

Wed May 6, 2009, 4:08 AM
Finally I had a chance to visit the Joshua Tree National Park, a few hours East of Los Angeles (where I had to attend a conference). It was only for one day, but working once more with KatyT, a most beautiful, enthusiastic and superbly skilled performer, made this a successful and unforgettable experience. Thanks Kate.

The experiment continues

I had a shooting appointmenr with Iris [link] yesterday, but it was much too cold to do the outdoor work I had planned for the day. Rather than cancel the meeting, we agreed to see what we could do at my house instead. It is anything but an ideal shooting location, cramped spaces, uncertain light, too much clutter.
Anyway, we tried to see how different emotions could be expressed by a body in full-figure images in the same setting and with as little help from dramatic posing and from facial expressions. Of course, as you see, Iris couldn't stick to the last condition, and it would have been a pity if she had. But it was amazing to see hawo even subtle variations of muscular tension and small gestures could transform the emotional meaning of a given static pose.
I will add some more images in the coming days. Of course these are no masterpieces, and I will surely return to my nudes-in-nature style of work aftetr this experiment. But I think I learned a lot about the expressive potential of the human body in these few yours. Thanks, Iris.

This week I had the chance to work with the beautiful and talented Isabella Reneaux
[link]
who happens to live in Berlin for the time being. Unfortunately, however, the weather was much too rough to do the outdoor shoot that we had planned. So we decided to work indoors in natural light and to continue with the attempt to express emotions through gestures and poses. It is interesting that it seems easier to express negative emotions -- fear, sorrow, despair, etc -- rather than positive ones. But we have only begun this exploration.

An experiment

Apologies

I have been away, travelling in Italy and Austria and without the Internet. Coming back, I am simply overwhelmed by the DD and the number of faves and comments that it provoked. I will have no chance to respond indivudually and can only thank everybody here.
